PSI Networking Call Series:
March - June 2008
Manufacturer Role in Product Stewardship |
Date: June 16, 2008
Time: 2:00 - 3:30 PM EDT
Overview: In recent years, many manufacturers have been under pressure from both consumers and the government to implement product stewardship initiatives, such as manufacturing environmentally friendly products, reducing the carbon footprint of the supply chain, and taking responsibility for their products at end of life. Representatives from several manufacturing firms, including Gray’s Harbor Paper, Seventh Generation, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters will be on the call to describe current efforts to green their products and manufacturing processes, and discuss the changing role of manufacturers’ overall responsibility for their products.
Presenters:
Paul Comey (Green Mountain Coffee Roasters)
Paul Comey is Vice President of Environmental Affairs for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR). His responsibilities include assuring that the company’s sites are in compliance with all local, state and federal laws, and reducing the environmental impact of the company’s operations. Paul has a vision of accelerating GMCR’s leadership in the environmental arena by using climate change as a competitive advantage. His initial efforts to map the company’s environmental footprint have resulted in significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. He sees the company’s commitment to GHG reduction and mitigation as essential to the company’s core belief that business can be an agent of world change. Paul has initiated programs and processes that exhibit his belief that environmental practices are typically best business practices. Prior to joining GMCR in 1993, Paul founded and managed Baseline Solutions, a consulting company focused on bottom line improvements in manufacturing operations, pollution compliance, equipment design, and process layout.
David Quigg (Gray's Harbor Paper)
David Quigg and his father Bill have revitalized a Hoquiam, WA paper mill and are producing 100% recycled paper using renewable energy. Learn about their innovations, their challenges and their invitation to consumers: by using Harbor 100 paper, jobs are created, no trees were cut down, no fossil fuels were burned, and the impact on the health of the global community is minimized.
